Pipe Plug vs Repair Packer: Temporary Isolation vs Resin Patch Installation

Contractors often ask whether an inflatable pipe plug can install a resin patch. Short answer from Reliance’s published distinction: use the right tool for the duty.

Pipe plugs

Temporary isolation, testing, or specified bypass arrangements. Families include single-size, multi-size (MS / bypass / high-pressure / steam / protective sleeve), and testing plugs.

Repair packers

Position and support a localized resin-and-fiberglass repair while it cures; the packer is removed after curing. Published DN50–1500 families include standard, bypass, long lateral, and Long-on-wheels. Pressure limits are per model — do not assume one bar rating for every packer.

What to send in an RFQ

Measured ID and pipe material; defect length / working length needed; access and deflated size; flow/bypass need; companion materials; destination, quantity, documents, target date.
