Instant-Lock Small vs Large at DN600: Measure ID Before You Order

Buyers searching for an internal pipe repair sleeve often land on Instant-Lock — then pause at DN600, where both Instant-Lock Small and Instant-Lock Large are published. This note is a short decision aid from Reliance Trenchless published product pages. Confirm measured internal diameter (ID) and configuration with Reliance for each project.

What Instant-Lock is (and is not)

An Instant-Lock sleeve is a mechanical internal pipe repair sleeve: stainless steel with an EPDM jacket, installed from inside the host pipe for localized trenchless point repair. Typical defect language on the product pages includes cracked systems, fragmented pipes, infiltration and exfiltration, and root intrusion. Instant-Lock is not a full-length CIPP lining programme, and it is not an internal pipe joint seal (that is a separate family for joint leakage between pipe sections).

  • Instant-Lock Small — published range DN150–600 (6–24″), 9 models, common rubber width 400 mm. Matching SLP installation packers (for example SLP150, SLP200-300, SLP300-400, SLP500-600).
  • Instant-Lock Large — published range DN600–2000 (24–80″), 13 models, common rubber width 300 mm. Installed with the SL Big Tool; request the Large-specific installation procedure.

The DN600 overlap: use measured ID, not nominal DN alone

Both Instant-Lock families list DN600. Reliance’s published guidance is clear: use the measured internal diameter at the repair location, not only the nominal DN label.

  • If the measured ID falls in the Small table’s “fits pipe from/to” window for DN600 (published 515–605 mm on the Small page), start with Instant-Lock Small and the matching SLP packer path.
  • If the measured ID belongs with the Large Instant-Lock family (DN600–2000), use Instant-Lock Large and the SL Big Tool path. Do not assume Small brochure packer inflation steps apply to Large.
  • Near DN600, send measured ID plus CCTV or photos so Reliance can confirm family and tool before you lock the RFQ.

Other published differences that matter at the overlap:

  • Jacket / rubber width: Small 400 mm vs Large 300 mm.
  • Order-code pattern: Small uses DN###-S / DN###-S-A / DN###-DK; Large uses DN###-B / DN###-B-A (304 or 316L as published).
  • Small lists drinking-water (DK) order codes where shown; Large pages focus on the SL Big Tool route and ask you to request Large installation guidance.

What to put in an Instant-Lock sleeve RFQ

Availability and delivery are confirmed per project. A useful Instant-Lock enquiry usually includes:

  1. Measured internal diameter at the defect (mm or inches), plus nominal DN if known.
  2. Pipe material and defect type (crack, joint leak, root, or another observed defect).
  3. Quantity and preferred steel grade (304 or 316L; DK where it applies on Small).
  4. Access and manhole constraints, and whether you already have an Instant-Lock SLP packer or SL Big Tool.
  5. Destination, required documents if any, and target date.

Quick disambiguation

  • Instant-Lock = localized mechanical internal pipe repair sleeve (stainless + EPDM).
  • Internal pipe joint seal = seal leaking joints between pipe sections from inside — different product, different tables.
  • Repair packer + resin/fiberglass = separate point-repair path; Instant-Lock installation packers are not the same product as resin-patch repair packers.
