Internal Pipe Repair Sleeve RFQ Checklist: What Buyers Should Confirm

Reliance Trenchless Technology — procurement note for contractors and buyers specifying mechanical internal sleeves. This checklist does not replace project engineering or the published product tables on our site.

Search and RFQs often use the phrase internal pipe repair sleeve. On our catalogue that maps to the Instant-Lock family: a stainless steel sleeve with an EPDM jacket for localized trenchless point repair—not a full-length CIPP lining programme. Use this checklist before you email a quote request, and treat any blank as “unknown—ask,” not as a reason to invent numbers.

1. Confirm the job is a sleeve job (not a joint seal or a resin patch)

Three different product stories get mixed in buyer language:

  • Mechanical internal sleeve (Instant-Lock) — stainless + EPDM, installed at a localized defect.
  • Internal pipe joint seal — focused on joint leakage geometry; prepare measurements with a dedicated guide.
  • Resin / fiberglass point repair — packer-cured patch materials; different bill of materials.

If you are still choosing a method, read our comparison on stainless steel repair sleeves vs resin fiberglass patches and, when the defect sits at a joint, internal pipe joint seals vs repair sleeves. Do not assume the products are interchangeable because the names sound similar.

2. Measured internal diameter — and Small vs Large

Always quote the measured internal diameter at the repair location, not only the nominal DN stamp.

Near DN600 the families can overlap. Send measured ID, photos/CCTV, and ask which configuration applies. Do not apply Small brochure inflation steps to a Large sleeve without confirmation.

3. RFQ field checklist (copy into your email)

  1. Host pipe: material, nominal DN, measured ID (mm/in) at defect
  2. Defect type and length (crack, fragment, infiltration/exfiltration, root, other)
  3. Quantity of sleeves; preferred steel grade if known (304/316L; drinking-water codes only if your project needs them)
  4. Access: manhole size, bends, entry limits, CCTV available yes/no
  5. Installation equipment on hand: SLP packer / SL Big Tool / none / unsure
  6. Service: wastewater vs drinking water (if relevant); any document requirements you already know
  7. Destination country, quantity urgency, and target date — availability and delivery are confirmed per project; we do not publish a universal lead time here
  8. Unknowns (honest list): anything you could not measure yet

You can also use the enquiry fields on our contact page.

4. Installation packers and point-repair packers (do not confuse the two)

Instant-Lock Small is paired with dedicated sleeve installation packers (SLP models on the Small product tables). Separately, Reliance publishes a broad catalogue of pipe repair packers for resin/fiberglass and other point-repair work—standard, bypass, long lateral, and wheeled families.

If your RFQ is for patch packers rather than Instant-Lock tooling, start with pipe repair packers for point repair and the buyer guide how to choose a pipe repair packer. State clearly which job you are buying for.

5. What we will not invent on a blog post

  • Site-specific pressure ratings beyond what the current brochure/tables show for a named model
  • Certifications or drinking-water approvals that are not confirmed for your order code
  • Fixed global stock locations, US warehouses, or guaranteed ship dates
  • An automatic “winner” between sleeves, seals, and resin patches without your pipe data

Published tables and EU TEST attestation mentions on product pages are starting points. Every quote should re-confirm dimensions, materials, operating limits, inspection documents, availability, and delivery terms.

6. Optional: joint leakage path

If CCTV shows the leak at a pipe joint and you are considering a mechanical joint seal instead of a repair sleeve, prepare measurements with the internal pipe joint seal measurement guide before RFQ. That keeps sleeve and seal enquiries from blocking each other.
